The new Integra is powered by a 200-hp turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine borrowed from the Honda Civic Si. All models are front-wheel drive and have a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). A-Spec models can be had with an optional six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The A-Spec test car hit 60 mph in 7.0 seconds; the A-Spec with the CVT was 0.1 seconds slower to 60 mph. During the initial test drive, it was found that the Integra was lively and spry. The steering is heavily weighted and satisfyingly direct, and the adaptive dampers allow the driver to choose between a comfortable cruising ride or a stiffer setting for better cornering fun. Road noise is too evident; however, Acura could have integrated more sound-reducing materials.

According to the EPA, the most efficient Integra model is the base car with the CVT, rated for 30 miles per gallon city and 37 miles per gallon highway. Such ratings will allow the Integra to go up against its key rival, the Audi A3, rated 29 miles per gallon in the city and 38 miles per gallon on the highway. Step up to the A-Spec trim with the manual transmission, and fuel economy estimates fall to 26 miles per gallon city and 36 miles per gallon highway. On the 75-mph highway fuel economy route, the automatic test car exceeded its EPA rating, achieving a result of 38 mpg. This new model is an absolute joy from behind the wheel. Unsurprisingly, it drives a lot like the Honda Civic Si on which it’s based, providing excellent steering and shifter feedback and a fun get-up-and-go attitude. The 200-hp turbocharged powertrain is well-matched to the chassis, providing adequate torque if you stay in boost. We do not like the excessive rev-hang engineered into the manual transmission model.

A-Spec models with the optional Technology package add faux-suede inserts to the seats, 12-way power adjustments for the driver, and four-way power adjustments for the front passenger.

If you’re looking for the best version until the high-performance Type S comes out next year, the A-Spec model is the way to go. It comes with sportier bodywork and larger 18-inch wheels. Plus, it lets you choose a six-speed manual transmission. You’ll also need to add the Technology package, which costs $3000 more to get the manual. But it’s worth it because it gives you excellent features like an adaptive suspension system, a big 10.2-inch digital display, a fantastic 16-speaker stereo system, and wireless smartphone charging, among other things.
